PRESS RELEASE: LASG SUSPENDS CLAMPDOWN ON CECs/TUTORIAL CENTRES

Lagos State Ministry of Education through the Lagos State Agency for Mass Education wishes to inform the general public of the suspension of the ongoing clampdown exercise on Continuing Education Centres (CECs)/ Tutorial Centres in the State. This decision was made after a meeting with the critical stakeholders in the sector yesterday Monday, September 26, 2016.

At the meeting, the Special Adviser on Education, Mr. Obafela Bank-Olemoh reiterated His Excellency’s directive on standardizing our educational sector in line with international best practices. “Every centre must align with the drive of the State government to standardize our educational sector by getting registered. As government we must set standards and enforce it.” He emphasized.

In theirresponse, the stakeholders agreed that the State’s plan to regularize the operations of tutorial centres is a welcome development and it is for the good of the educational system.They said, “We are not against the government, we are also worried about the activities of quack tutorial centre operators.

The State thereby suspends clampdown exercise till November 25th, 2016 to allow full compliance by all centres. A technical committee will be set up comprising officers of the Ministry of Education led by the Permanent secretary, Office of Special Adviser and relevant stakeholders. This committee will review the framework for proper regularization of Continuing Education Centres/Tutorial centres in the State.
